Prohodna – one of the most famous and most easily accessible caves in Bulgaria, is located 2 km from the village Karlukovo and 112 km from Sofia. Local residents call the cave „God’s Eyes.“ Its main feature tourists notice right away are the huge natural holes in the cave’s arch, reminiscent of giant empty eye sockets. And in rainy weather, „The Eyes of God“ acquire an additional resemblance to the human form, for water draining from the corners of the holes is very reminiscent of tears. The cave is a natural rock bridge with a length of 262 m; it leads to two inputs – large and small. A small entrance, about 35 m high, starts a path that runs through the entire cave to a large entrance, where you can see the highest cave vault in Bulgaria, reaching 45 m. In 1962, the cave was given the status of a natural sight. Several Bulgarian and foreign films were shot here, in particular, „Time is divided“ in 1987; in the Russian box office – „The Hour of Anger“ or „The Time of Violence“.
