A few hours drive from Bansko, there is Thasos Island in the north of Greece – opposite the shores of Eastern Macedonia. The name of the island of Thassos is due to the mythological hero – the son of Phoenician King Agenor, who went at the behest of his father in search of his sister – the beautiful Europe abducted by Zeus. The search was unsuccessful, and Thassos could not return to his father without fulfilling his mandate, therefore he stayed on a beautiful island, which was later named after him. The mountain slopes of the island are covered with Mediterranean vegetation, at the foots there are cypress, chinara, oak, evergreen shrubs, coniferous forests. The island of Thassos will appeal to those travelers who like to study antiquities, amazing beauty of nature and listen to the silence. There are few Russian tourists on the island of Thassos, probably because of the distance to the island from the airport, but if you come for a quiet beach holiday at sea, then fall in love with it forever!
